2010 Pastors' Wives' Getaway Held March 21-24

Our Getaway theme was “Heart Matters." We had a totally booked Getaway again this year! This is absolutely the favorite "special event" of the year for Deer Ridge Ministries! Our 2010 “Getaway” was held at Crossroads Community Church, Freeport, IL.  There is no charge to pastors’ wives and all meals and lodging are included as a gift from the friends and supporters of Deer Ridge Ministries! Attendance is limited to the first 50 women who register.

Because we understand the life of a pastor’s wife, this is a time to give them some special attention! It is an opportunity for pastor’s wives to come together and share their lives with women who understand the unique lifestyle a pastor’s wife experiences. In addition to hearing from an excellent speaker who knows that lifestyle, the “Getaway” also provides every woman with special touches that say, “You are loved and appreciated!” Each attendee is placed in a small group, giving her the chance to become closely acquainted with 5-7 women. Additionally, there is plenty of free time in the schedule, allowing for quiet time, naps, pool time, hot tub time and hilarious girl talk!

Sherryl Stone was our main speaker! Sherryl is known to many of the wives who have attended our Pastors’ Wives’ Getaway over the years. She did an excellent job as our Getaway speaker! Sherryl truly spoke to the hearts of our ladies.

Sherryl and husband, Charles, have been married for 29 years. He is the lead pastor of Ginger Creek Community Church, Aurora, Illinois. They have three grown children, Heather, Joshua and Tiffany. She and her family have survived many faith-stretching challenges, including Tiffany's brain tumor and chronic illnesses, as well as Heather's intense teenage rebellion.

Sherryl's passions in ministry are helping people take the next steps in their faith in Christ, and to learn to love God more fully through the difficulties in their lives. Most recently, Sherryl collaborated with a therapist and a psychologist to develop a peer counseling and training ministry, called the Guidance Support Ministry, at Ginger Creek.

Sherryl grew up in Mississippi and has kept her delightful southern accent and charm. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Bible from Mississippi College and a Masters of Religious Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Sherryl has a heart for women and enjoys mentoring, and leading small groups.

Sherryl was a contributor to her husband’s book, Daughters Gone Wild, Dad’s Gone Crazy. She has also written several articles for “Gifted for Leadership,” a Christianity Today web newsletter. Sherryl is the Director of “Connexions” and Guidance Support at Ginger Creek. She also serves on the Sunday morning Teaching Team.
